  • Blood sampling is conducted, and the ELISA method is employed for accurate detection.
  • A negative test result allows the horse to proceed with travel plans.
  • Testing gauges antibody levels; higher levels may indicate exposure, triggering a retest recommendation if close to the allowed positive percentage.

Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM) Testing:

  • CEM, a venereal disease caused by Taylorella equigenitalis, requires testing for horses intended for regions where the disease is absent.
  • Geldings can travel without CEM testing.
  • Andalusian Purebred Virgin stallions must undergo CEM testing in Spanish quarantine, provided they have not produced offspring (certified by ANCCE) and vet-certified.

Additional Testing:

  • Depending on the importing country, tests for Dourine, Glanders, and EIA may be required, even if uncommon in Spain.
